Indian Billionaires Who Have Pledged Billions To Philanthropy


Anil Agarwal:

The Founder and Chairman of Vedanta, a UK based company; Anil is an Indian businessman, who has brought many of the diverse industries of his family under the same roof. He currently resides in UK. Anil, on the 10th anniversary of his company announced a huge donation of 75 percent of his total wealth to charity which is over 16,000 crores.

This generous donation made him India’s biggest business donor. He was quoted saying “Community programmes that work towards eradication of poverty, child welfare and women empowerment will be our focus for communities at large in our country. I am keen to invest and create a world-class, not-for-profit university in India that has the best-in-class education in liberal arts and humanities.”

Azim Premji:

His name is not a new on this list, Azim Premji the founder of Wipro has gone through great lengths to give generously back to the society.

Azim lives a very simple life and gives away almost all his wealth to charity.

His has joined Bill Gates and Warren Buffet’s program “The Giving Pledge” club and has time and again been the biggest example to people when it comes to parting with money for a greater cause. He pledged 25 percent of his wealth of $16 billion in 2013 to charity.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw:

The leading lady who brought biotechnology to the frontier business line in India, Mazumdar Shaw is not just one of the most powerful women in business but also one of the most generous. She has pledged 75 percent of her total wealth to charity upon her death.
