Women Entrepreneurs to Fly To Silicon Valley As Part of WEQ 2015

BENGALURU: Anita Borg Institute India, a non-profit focused on the advancement of women in technology, said it will take six women entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley and award them with 5,00,000, at the end of its fifth edition of Women Entrepreneur Quest (WEQ) 2015.

WEQ 2015 is a business plan contest for women-led startups in technology across India, organized at the annual Grace Hopper Celebration India(GHCI) conference. The contest is designed to encourage, showcase and recognize technology startups, founded and managed by women entrepreneurs.

"While we see many with great talent, there is a definite need to see more who have the self- ambition and drive to grow their business into a success that cannot go unnoticed," said Geetha Kannan, managing director, ABI India.

This year the Anita Borg Institute India (ABI India), the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) have partnered to jointly organize WEQ 2015.

"The success of our last experiential learning visit to Silicon Valley in April 2015, is evidence of the opportunities and benefits that participants received from the program," said Dr Anita Gupta, associate head at the NSTEDB of the DST, Government of India.

The registrations are now open and will close on 31 October, 2015, said ABI India in a statement.
