When Nandan Nilekani resigned from Infosys in July 2012 where he was serving as the co-chairman of the board of the directors to spearhead a government initiative, the UIDA caught everyone’s attention. This is the world’s biggest biometric data capture exercise with an aim to deliver unique identification number to 60 crore people by the end of 2014. The database stores the fingerprint and iris scans of the user to authenticate the identity. The unique 12 digit number can be linked to bank account of the user. A total 450 million people have got their unique identification number so far.
