Sony May Plug Off Smartphone and TV Businesses

BENGALURU: Sony Phones were once known for its high quality and affordability until giants like Apple and Samsung reined successful endeavors in the SmartPhone market.

In lieu of the tough competition in any electronic segment, Sony earlier sold off Vaio to get more focused and determined on the phone segment.

Months later, reports milling all over is that Sony may  exit the SmartPhone and TV segment soon. This step is towards building a better profitable market for the company in other areas where it has better foothold and consumer appealing market.

In a report by Reuters, floating around the CEO of the Japanese electronics firm, Kazuo Hirai said that the firm would no longer be entertaining areas like SmartPhone where it has from the heavy competition from existing and emerging rivals.

The CEO said instead the firm would be more focused towards bringing up more profits on areas that are successful and consumers relate the company with. Sony will be seen expanding user base for cameras, PlayStations and entertainment, the areas that mill most profits for the company.

"The strategy starting from the next business year will be about generating profit and investing for growth," told Hirai. Though the exiting plans are almost final, the CEO added that at this point, an exit strategy cannot be ruled out and the firm is working closely upon all key aspects and areas regarding the future businesses.

We still remember the kind of wave Sony created when it came out with its walkman and Trinitron TV and the world still relates quality with Sony. We might well see Sony climb the ladders of profit and success in the lost segments.
