Ratan Tata To Head Railway's Kaya Kalp Council

New Delhi: Noted industrialist Ratan Tata will head a new innovative council of Indian Railways, called 'Kaya Kalp', formed to turn around the ailing state-run rail network.

Apart from Tata Group's Chairman Emeritus, the Kaya Kalp council will also have two railway union leaders Shiv Gopal Mishra and M Raghuvaiah.

This council will be a standing body and will interact with all stakeholders and other interested parties. “It will initially also have Shiv Gopal Mishra, General Secretary, All Indian Railwaymen’s Federation and M. Raghavaiah, General Secretary, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen, the two recognised federations representing the railway employees as members,” according to an official statement.

Ratan Tata will head the Kaya Kalp council, while General Secretaries of All-India Railwaymen Federation and National Federation of Indian Railwaymen will also be the members of the council, according to railway spokesperson.

The spokesperson said more members would soon be inducted into the council, proposed by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in his Rail Budget speech to suggest ways to turn around the ailing public transporter.

Currently, the terms and references were being finalised, he added.
