Indian IT Matching Up To Global Expectation?

BANGALORE: World's largest buyers of technology strongly believe that the IT firms in India must strap up with newer technology.

According to the reports from ET, leading global technology firm bring to attention the significant need for Indian IT firms to revamp or upgrade their business in areas that particularly include digital, analytics and cloud. This is mainly due to the raise in tech savvy clients who are well versed and are constantly updating themselves in advanced computing.
"Over a period of time, over 8-10 years, GICs (global in-house centres of companies) have built leadership maturity, credibility within the organization and high level of business value... it is this that has changed the game," said Nitin Seth, country head at Fidelity Worldwide Investment.  In the case of American retailer Target, for example, has been deploying projects to prominent Indian software firms which include TCS and Infosys for nearly a decade. At present, the 113-year-old firm has been refurbishing more technological facilities in its captive centers India than ever before.

The Minneapolis-based company initiated a business accelerator program last year to tap into India's emerging start-up ecosystem for blooming talents and technology solutions. The launch of this program was an attempt to withstand the battle against new-age competitors such as Walmart and Amazon.

"For Indian tech vendors, rather than coming to us and saying this is what we can do, they should come to us and say these are your business problems and we have these solutions for you. Also, Indian IT firms should not view captives as threats, but should view them more as partners," said Narayan Ram, managing director of Lowe's India

In retrospect, traditional Indian software services firms are finding it difficult to make the transitional move towards enhanced business models. The fresh version of the model is poles apart from the classic 'pyramid model', where revenue growth was directly associated to additional manpower.
