Highest Road Tax Levied in Karnataka, Lowest in Sikkim


BANGALORE: Karnataka ranked number one among other Indian states on the list of states with road tax paid by passenger vehicles. On the whole, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh featured in the list where road tax exceeds 10 percent. On the other hand, the road tax in northern states consisting of high volume market accounted for around 5-8 percent for low-priced cars and 8 percent for mid-segment cars. However, road taxes have climbed up in Delhi and Rajasthan as a result of increasing car prices, reports ET.

In addition to this, Delhi and Maharashtra levy the highest tax for diesel vehicles. And, Cars run on CNG are charged with the lowest road tax in Maharashtra. The tax imposition differs for different car categories. For instance, the road tax levied on the corporate purchases is twice of that paid on individual purchases in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Lowest road tax is imposed in North-east region.

Karnataka topped the list of 10 states with highest road tax paid on low priced cars followed by West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

Karnataka is also the state with the lowest road tax on mid range cars followed by Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar.

Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Chandigarh are amongst the states levying the lowest road tax on all price slabs.
