7 Entrepreneurs Who Made A Fortune After Age 40

2. Asa Candler- Coca-Cola

Candler was born in December 30, 1851 in Villa Rica, Georgia. In 1888, he bought the formula for Coca-Cola from its inventor John Pemberton and several other shareholders for $550. The Coca-Cola Company offers more than 500 brands in over 200 countries, aside from its namesake Coca-Cola beverage.

The success of Coca-Cola was largely due to Candler's aggressive marketing of the product. Candler made millions of dollars from his investment, allowing him to establish the Central Bank and Trust Corp, invest in real estate, and became a major philanthropist for the Methodist Church.

In 1922, he donated over 50 acres of his Druid Hills holdings to the City of Atlanta for what became Candler Park.

3. Richard and Maurice McDonald- McDonald

These two brothers were American fast food pioneers, who established the first McDonald's restaurant in 1940 when they were running in their early 40s. McDonald's primarily used to sell hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken, French fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, milkshakes, and desserts.

In response to changing consumer tastes, the company has expanded its menu to include salads, fish, wraps, smoothies, fruit, and seasoned fries. The McDonald brothers began franchising their successful restaurant chain in 1953, beginning in Phoenix, Arizona with Neil Fox.

McDonald’s Corporation revenues come from the rent, royalties, and fees paid by the franchisees, as well as sales in company-operated restaurants. The brothers' goal was to make one million dollars before they were fifty. Today Forbes has ranked McD as 6th most valuable brand in the world with $28.11 billion sales.
