This movie didn’t have a big star cast or glamorous sets but around $15 million were spent on its making. The movie was successful in attracting both Indian and foreign audience. Since the movie was shot in Mumbai, India, and it depicted the reality of the slums, it was successful among the Indian audience and it was Box office hit. It wasn’t a commercial movie but it was good for family audience. It had an ethnic appeal to it as well. And the movie was Academy award winner for the Best picture. An academy award winner with less investment is sure to have a lot of profit. It grossed $377 million and therefore incurred a profit of $362 million.
