Gaitonde Tells The Truth
Girish Gaitonde’s cover story reflects the true state of the Indian software services companies, which are hurting now. When the going was good, many companies, big and small, rushed to pitch on any and every business. Now that the dew is gone, reality is pushing the weak ones out of business. When will we ever learn that there is no short cut to quick money? Gaitonde’s efforts to differentiate Xoriant with some IP is a good route to build strong equity. Perhaps the other companies would do well to emulate him.

Mahajan Hits The Spot
Romi Mahajan has said the truth. While I will request more examples of how Indian companies can cooperate on value, I wholly agree with his view of not competing on cost. The arbotrage on cost is over and now clients seek true value. Are our companies capable of delivering this? Only time will tell. We have lost our spot in other industries like manufacturing and high tech, let us not repeat this in the software services.

BPO Boom
In the special feature on BPO, the various articles have brought out two important points that offshore outsourcing companies need to keep in view: client satisfaction and reliability. BPO takes a different hue in resources and work culture, and Indian companies will have to ramp up their deliveries and client interaction models, if they don’t want to lose out to other countries.
