Succeeding Through Persistence and Patience

The quintessential entrepreneurs are usually ultra -successful businessmen with a huge appetite for tolerance and risk, and an even bigger appetite for hard work. A testimony to the spirit is Raman Govindarajan, CEO of Perfsystems, a consulting and IT Products and Services Company, offering products and consulting services in database administration, security and performance. He chose the long road over a quick fix shortcut in the form of $2 million which was offered by a popular investment banking entity as a growth stimulus for his just started company.

A man who believes in the saying-“success that does not originate from hard work, is not success at all,” Govindarajan politely declined the offer and now has built his organization by the boot-strapping financial model, and earned his respect through seamless commitment and integrity over the course of 12 years.

Perfsystems, USA, now serves over 60 enterprise clients across the globe.

Perfsystems today, under the leadership of Govindarajan, has come a long way since starting out as a one man show in 2001. The company caters to multiple verticals with many products and solutions in multiple platforms such as Oracle and SQl servers as their key offerings to multiple clients worldwide including strategic partnerships with Dell, HP and Oracle to name a few.

Patience and persistence pays

Coming from a family of lawyers and doctors, Govindarajan dreamt of being an entrepreneur in his academic days. A strong believer in patience and persistence, he continued to spend close to seven years after his Masters to perfect his core skills in the field of IT. He engaged in a host of courses after an MS in Computer Science from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1984. Although originally from a non business background, Govindarajan always believed that deep inside he was destined to be an entrepreneur. Unlike other budding entrepreneurs, Govindarajan played the waiting game and did not jump into an idea too soon.
In 1992 he started out in the field of Database Management for a well known company. Since then, the database systems architect has never looked back. Almost 20 years hence, he wakes up every day with the same passion and will to succeed and compete with big players in the market.

The mind and body connection

The mind and body connection is one of the key values that he imparts while going about training technical staffs worldwide and teaching part time courses in the University of California and Northwestern Polytechnic University, California to name a few. He regularly mentors the budding entrepreneurs and presents various technical sessions for the TiE( The Indian Entrepreneur) and IACC( Indo-Amercian Chamber of Commerce) Members. Govindarajan lead the team which demonstrated the capabilities of today's generation of Data Warehousing, the 16 nodes, 5TB Data ware house architecture, in 1997, and participated in another large 68TB database project. These were done many years ago, developing and proving large database technologies, that is helping in building large databases in pedabytes, now!

Helping the Indo-American entrepreneurial cause

After working for companies such as Oracle, IBM, EMC, AMD and Siemens for close to 16 years, the technocrat is recognized today across the Silicon Valley as one of the top experts and consulting leaders in Oracle database functioning. A testimony of his expertise and skills is his appointment as the Chairman of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Chennai in 2011.

In this post Govindarajan helped the whole Indian entrepreneurial community by toiling to strengthen ties between India and the U.S. During his term, IACC organized many events and activities throughout Tamil Nadu to foster and grow Indo American businesses. Many of these events had the support and participation of the US Consulate’s General and Commercial Consulate’s officers in Chennai and Delhi, including the presence of the US Ambassador for India at an IACC event. Many US business delegations visited Tamilnadu to explore business relationships with Indian counterparts.

Under his leadership, his core team in Perfsystems was able to achieve nominations in the Enterprise and IT architecture awards of 2012, among worldwide competition. The nominations were awarded for innovations in designing the Load Performance Optimization of turboloadPRO and dbaWidget, a futuristic IT Product. Govindarajan led his three core teams, the production team, development team and the R&D team, who together amalgamated to design The TurboLoad pro, fully customizable for ETL applications, for super-fast data load to databases. For DBAs, it gave freedom from the tedious method of setting up env files, and sustains super fast data loads using parallel architectures.

Govindarajan has emerged unscathed through testing times and has not let disturbances in the form of financial temptations and top positions in other companies steer him away from his entrepreneurial dream. Today, he continues to inspire budding entrepreneurs and leaders in the industry by example.
