After the acquisition of ATI Technologies in October, the India division of AMD too has made changes in management. Alok Ohrie will be the new Managing Director of AMD’s India operations.

An electronics and communication graduate with over 18 years of experience in the IT industry, Ohrie said, “I feel fortunate to be part of AMD at such an exciting time.” Established in 2004, the India operations is slowly but significantly moving up in the global contributions of AMD. Always pitted against rival Intel, the company is working towards the latest processors in the 65 nanometer and 45-nanometer technology. Ohrie feels that the company’s innovative product lineup is incredibly strong and it has the right customer-focused strategy for growth.

Ohrie succeeds Ajay Marathe, who will return to AMD’s headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, USA. “I intend to build on the strong foundation which Ajay leaves behind, and will endeavor to steer AMD India during this next, very exciting phase of expansion,” said Ohrie.

Ohrie will report to Gustavo Arenas, Corporate Vice President and head of AMD’s High Growth Market Initiative. Gustavo Arenas said, “We are very pleased to welcome Alok to lead our India team. Ajay has built a strong foundation and successfully grown AMD’s presence in India. Alok is well positioned to draw on his extensive experience in the Indian technology industry to drive AMD’s further growth in the region.”

Prior to joining AMD, Ohrie served as the Director, Systems and Technology Group for IBM’s India and South Asia operations. There he handled sales and marketing assignments for IBM in India, South Asia and Australia. Prior to IBM, Ohrie also worked with Wipro and ESPL.
