Xiaomi's Flagship Mi5 now Available via Online Stores


BENGALURU: Chinese tech giant Xiaomi’s flagship Mi5 smartphone which was only available via the company’s online store in India, Mi.com; took to Twitter on Thursday to announce its partnership with major online stores namely  Amazon India, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Tata Cliq  for selling Mi5 priced at 24,999. The phone which was initially only available through flash sales on Mi.com went on open sale since last week.

Xiaomi Mi 5 which runs on Android 6.0 features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass, and a pixel density of 428ppi. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU, it sports a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 camera sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and LED flash. Measuring 144.5x69.2x7.25mm and weighing 129 grams, the Mi 5 packs a 3000mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which according to the company is 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the Quick Charge 2.0. Also onboard is a USB Type-C port. Connectivity options include VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, Glonass, and NFC.

The 16 MP Sony IMX298 rear camera sensor comes with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and LED flash while sporting 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilization) and sapphire glass protection lens which supports 4K video recording. It also sports a 4-megapixel front camera with 2-micron pixels. Both cameras feature an f/2.0 aperture.

Xiaomi has so far only brought a single variant of the smartphone in India featuring 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. On the other hand, Xiaomi Global Vice President Hugo Barra confirmed to Gadgets 360, a venture of NDTV that the company was working on bringing the Black color variant of the Mi 5 to India soon. The Mi5 had earned an overall rating of 9/10 from Gadgets 360.
