Xiaomi Launches its Latest Feature-Rich Smartphone

BENGALURU: Amidst several rumors and speculations, Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi 3S in China, which looks pretty much similar to the Redmi 3 Pro. The company will make the phone available in two different memory and storage variants, one featuring 2GB RAM with 16GB of inbuilt storage, while the other features 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The phone will be available for sale exclusively in the company’s online store Mi.com, starting this Thursday. The company hasn’t announced any concrete details regarding the global availability of the handset.

The smartphone features a 5-inch display combined with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The handset integrates a Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz in place of the Snapdragon 616 SoC as noticed in other Redmi 3 devices. Moreover, the phone makes use of the hybrid SIM slot to provide dual SIM support, thus allowing users to opt for MicroSD instead of second SIM. The device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based MIUI 7 and its future plans include an upgrade to Marshmallow based MIUI 8.

On the camera front, the handset integrates 13MP rear camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera allows users to focus for just 0.1 seconds, depending on the requirement. The front camera is equipped with a 5MP lens, combining an f/2.2 aperture which facilitates video recording at 1080p resolution. Furthermore, the device includes a 4,100mAh non-removable battery which can sustain for more than a day of use. The connectivity capabilities present on the device include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 82.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, and a Micro USB 2.0 port.

The smartphone sports a uni-metal body and will be made available in Grey, Silver, and Gold colors. Additionally, an improvement featuring a fingerprint scanner is present at the back panel. The device measures 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and weighs 144 grams. The phone with 2GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 699, while the 3GB variant is priced at CNY 899.
