With ZenFone Zoom, ASUS Infuses a New life to the World of Photography

ASUS, the Taiwanese mobile manufacturing company, which is known for offering high specs smartphones at very reasonable rates, has now undergone a phase shift as it launches its most awaited ASUS ZenFone Zoom smartphone, the world’s thinnest 3x optical zoom smartphone. Priced at 37,999 (tad high when analyzed from a budget consumer’s perspective), this new ZenFone will be available exclusively on Flipkart from January 22 and at all ASUS store from February 2016. This is by far the most expensive smartphone launched by ASUS, which clearly shows it is ready to compete with the giants like Samsung and Sony in the high-end smartphone market.

Having operated the ZenFone Zoom on first hand at its launch in Agra, let me explain you about its specifications and technicalities.

Body & Display: The new ASUS ZenFone’s outer body is built using a single aluminum block providing the best grip and protection, and comes with a choice of pure black or ceramic white (both with leather finish) on the rear. Coming with a metallic finish, this 5.5 inch capacitive touch full HD display has a Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which protects the screen from physical damages. The display is also scratch proof and has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating; thus providing a double protection to your mobile screen. The hard keys for volume control, power on/off, camera shutter function and video record button are all placed on the right edge of the smartphone, instead of making use of the left edge too and equally distributing the hard keys. The data transfer port and a 3.5mm jack are positioned at the top edge of the phone.

Performance & Functions: Powered by Intel’s 64-bit Quad-Core 2.5 GHz processor, ZenFone Zoom comes with an astonishing 4GB RAM and an internal memory of 128GB which can further be extended to another 128GB via MicroSD card. However, there is no slot for a second sim card, which is one of the very few disadvantages that this exquisite piece offers. As a cherry on top of the cake, this smartphone runs Android Lollipop 5.0 with an availability of upgrading to higher Android versions.

Camera: Anybody can make out from its name that this model is specifically built keeping in mind the camera specifications. ZenFone Zoom comes with a 13 megapixel PixelMaster rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. It is made for those smartphone users who take photography seriously as it offers SLR-like features in a smartphone. It is equipped with dual color real tone LED flash. The 10P Hoya lens offers 3X optical zoom and wide angle photo capturing including optical image stabilization (OIS) with up to four stops. It has dedicated hard keys for video recording and shutter controls. The Super HDR mode offers 400 percent better contrast images, while the Low Light mode processes images & videos to 400 percent more brighter. It comes with dual-LED Real Tone flash and a camera app that supports long exposures of up to 32 seconds, and capture super-resolution images of uo to 52 megapixels. Its macro mode lets you get as close as 5 cm. Additionally, this smartphone also has inbuilt photo centric apps like MiniMovie, PhotoCollage and ZenCircle, making it a perfect kit of everyone passionate about photography. But to the dismay, this costly phone does not support 4k video recording.

Battery: The ASUS ZenFone Zoom runs on a 3000mAh Lithium Polymer battery which is much safer while charging and offers long-lasting battery life. The smartphone also boasts of the new BoostMaster fast charging technology which enables charging the device from zero to sixty percent in 39 minutes. The battery not being a removable one is yet another disadvantage that this revolutionary smartphone offers.
