Bangalore: The smartphone Xperia Ion was first showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2012 has finally arrived in India.  The phone was spotted on Snapdeal.com for 35,999. According to Sony they have developed this phone to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X.

The disappointment regarding the phone is its operating system. The Ion runs on the outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Though Sony has promised that this smartphone would soon be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. So as of now the pricing of the phone and the outdated operating system isn’t going down to well with the critics as well as the customers.

Like the other smartphones Xperia Ion also follows the trend of large screen, it comes with a 4.6-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The device is powered by a fast 1.5 GHz dual core processor and an Adreno 220 GPU. The phone comes with an internal memory of 16 GB and a slot for the microSD card with which you can expend the memory of up to 32 GB.

The smartphone has both rear and front facing camera. The rear camera has a resolution of 12 mega pixels and the front facing camera comes with 1.3 mega pixels. The front camera allows for video calls at 720 pixels resolution.

The phone is powered by a 1900 mAh battery that promises at least a complete day of usage.  Sony claim that the phone stand by time is up to 400 hours for the 2G version and 350 hours for the 3G phone.

Sony Xperia Ion is available in two colour variants; black and red.
