Qualcomm Unveils New Mid Range Snapdragon 430 and 617 Processors

BANGALORE: The famous Snapdragon Smartphone chip makers, Qualcomm, announced the two new additions to the Snapdragon family – the 430 and the 617. The new processors are expected to be seen in the mid-range Smartphones, which brings many improvement in connectivity and multimedia platform, reports DNA.

The novel Snapdragon 430 supports a new generation of 4G - X6 LTE with Cat 6; download speed up to 150Mbps, and Cat 5; upload speed up to 75Mbps. The chip transfers data at a faster pace now with the feature such as carrier aggregation that enables phones to ‘bond’ carrier frequency bands (in this case 2 x 10MHz bands).

Now the 430 supports dual camera configurations with sensors up to 21 megapixels. The graphic capability also receives a hike as the pairing of Qualcomm’s own Adreno 505 GPU for graphics APIs such as Open GL ES3.1, Android Extension Pack, and OpenCL 2.0.

Another chipset announced by Qualcomm was the 617; it comes with enhancement at both the ends – connectivity and multimedia with the support for the X8 LTE, which has a download up to 300Mbps with Cat 7 and upload speed up to 100Mbps. This new Snapdragon chipsets also share the same software developments, dual-ISP and camera architecture of the Snapdragon 620 and 618.

The new Snapdragon 430 and 617 chips make use of the ARM Cortex A53 CPU in octa-core configurations that is considered to be power-efficient. The Snapdragon 430 will be seen in the phones from second quarter of 2016 and the Snapdragon 617 will be available by the end of 2015.
