Philips Re-Enters India Mobile Phone Market


BANGALORE: Philips, a consumer durables manufacturer re- enters the Indian market after a gap of two years. They have now introduced four devices ranging from a basic feature phone to an android-based smart mobile phone priced between 1,960 and 20,650 and will be available sometime this year.
 
"We are entering into the market again with a whole range of feature and smart phones that we believe serves all the categories of clients. We will be launching two new phones by next month that will take our range to about 35,000," S.S. Bassi, country manager India, Overseas Sales, Shenzhen Sangfei.
 Before the acquisition of the china based Shenzhen Sang Fei in 2007, the company sold featured phones in India.
 
"Manufacturing will come with mass demand. Till then we will backup our inventories through imports. The smart phone penetration is the market is still low of about 15 percent so we see a tremendous scope for growth in this segment," Bassi added.
 
As far as the specifications are concerned with the phone, the W3500 is priced around 16,195 and consists of a 5-inch display with a 1.3 GHZ clock speed quad core processor made by Media Tek which includes a 1 GB of RAM too. The storage option on the phone includes a 4GB of internal memory which can be expanded with a micro SD card. On the optics side it has a 5 Mega pixel rear camera with a 2MP front one with a dual sim support and runs on the Android 4.2 jelly bean OS.
