Philips Launches a Fitness Watch and Scale Along With Other Health Tracking Devices

BENGALURU: Philips has launched a new line of health wearable and hence joined the wearable bandwagon of wearable devices. The company has announced five new gadgets—health watch ($250), a body analysis scale ($100), an ear thermometer ($60), an upper arm blood pressure monitor ($100) and a wrist blood pressure monitor ($90) supported by Philips' HealthSuite Health app for iOS and Android. Your bio signals and activity data is tracked with a central mobile app.

The fitness watch measures a wide range of health biometrics, including heart rate, activity, and sleep patterns. The watch has an optical heart rate sensor and an accelerometer automatically measuring your biometric data. Philips claims that the watch is designed to "help prevent lifestyle induced chronic conditions, by providing accurate and clinically validated measurement". The data is synced with HealthSuite app, with a cloud platform that collects and analyzes data received from the device. The customized program would help an individual to understand how his/her lifestyle choices are affecting his/her health. The water resistant watch can live up to a battery life of 4 days. It comes with an always on display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Users will be connected with doctors and psychologists that provide personalized recommendations on setting and monitoring goals.

The upper arm BP monitor and wrist B.P monitor allows users to calculate your systolic and diastolic blood pressure and your heart rate, respectively. The body analysis scale measures weight, estimates body fat (BIA), and calculates BMI. Lastly, the ear thermometer measures body temperature, that too in less than two seconds.

“Philips is not in the world of fitness,” said Eline de Graaf, Director for Philips Personal Health Solutions. “That’s not our mission, and as a healthcare company, we don’t think that’s where we can add value. We’re in the connected health space, and target consumer who is at risk of chronic diseases.”
