Nvidia to launch Quadro 4000 card for Macs


Mumbai: Nvidia, the graphic processing units (GPU) and chipset producer, has announced it will launch its new line of video cards for Apple's Mac Pro based on the Fermi architecture called the Quadro 4000 for Mac. This is the first time that Nvidia is introducing its Fermi architecture for Apple users. The Quadro 4000 is priced at $1,199 and can be bought from Apple.com, select Apple resellers and system integrators, and Nvidia's authorized distribution partners. The Fermi architecture accelerates important graphics operations into video games and brings GPU significantly closer in architecture and programming style to the CPU. The Quadro 4000 for Mac will work on the same technology as the midrange, PC-oriented Quadro 4000 and is streamlined for workflow acceleration. Among its primary features, the Quadro 4000 for Mac will include 256 CUA processing cores with 2GB of GDDR5 frame buffer and 256 bit memory interface. The memory bandwidth is 89.6 GBps. The maximum resolution offered by the single-slot card is 2,560 by 1,600. The card will comprise of two video outputs ports with one dual link DVI-I and a DisPlay port and a 3D stereo bracket. The system requirements for Quadro 4000 for Mac are Mac OS 10.6.5 or later, with MacPro3,1, MacPro4,1, or MacPro5,1. Nvidia has also announced the availability of the latest Quadro GPUs for the Indian markets. It comprises of Quadro 4000 ( 79,134), Quadro 5000 ( 164,934), Quadro 2000 ( 39,534) and Quadro 600 ( 13,134); available through the channel partners of Nvidia.
