Microsoft May Launch its Own WP8 Smartphone

Bangalore: After Microsoft’s entry into the tablet market with Surface, it wasn’t going to be long before reports of Microsoft’s self-branded Windows Phone 8 would make an appearance in the media. If the reports are to be believed then the smartphone from Microsoft would be in the market by the first half of 2013.

According to a report which came out in China Times, a daily English newspaper in China, Microsoft has been developing this phone for the past four months. Some reports even suggest that they have already chosen an assembly partner.

Till now Microsoft has partnered with Nokia to bring out Windows Phone devices. But as we all know this Windows- Nokia smartphones have failed to create an impact in the mobile world. Probably Microsoft has decided it’s time they step in and take control to popularize their operating system.

Along with developing their own smartphone, Microsoft has also started at looking at other hardware partners like HTC, who recently announced their “Signature Windows Phone 8” handset.

The next question that arises is what Microsoft would brand their smartphone as? Rumors point towards the fact that they might continue with the Surface branding only.

Would the new Windows Phone 8 smartphone be a disappointment like its predecessor Kin? Microsoft had earlier released their own phone in the U.S. markets which was a miserable flop and Verizon Wireless, the marketing agency has to stop the sales within two months of its launch.
