Lenovo Unveils a Bendable Phone for Your Wrist

BENGALURU: At its tech world conference, Lenovo took the lid off to showcase its progress in the flexible display technology area with two new concepts about their upcoming projects. The first is CPlus, a new conceptual smartphone with a totally flexible display, which can also be worn as a band on a user’s wrist. The second is the Folio tablet, which can be folded into two just like a piece of paper. Lenovo CPlus and Folio concepts are all about creating 100 per cent flexible devices. Lenovo is not the only company that is fiddling around with the idea of flexible displays and phones.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Samsung is planning to unveil its bendable smartphone with a flexible display at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next year. The report in Bloomberg notes, Samsung will launch two new smartphones with bendable OLED displays. In Lenovo’s case, both the CPlus smartphone and Folio tablet, which can be folded to use as a smartphone, are still very much conceptual and not yet finished products.

YouTube star Meghan McCarthy showcased the new concepts at Lenovo’s Tech World conference.  As this post on PC Mag explains, “CPlus has multiple hinges which allow it to curl up on itself through almost 360 degrees, creating a bracelet you can wear on your wrist.”

Lenovo’s CTO, Peter Hortensius, showcased the CPlus smartphone, which sports an elastic display and internal hardware, allowing the handset to wrap around the wrist and double up as a wearable device. The flexible handset would come in a range of colors, run on Android and sport a 4.26-inch flexible display. The next in line was the Folio concept, which was explained and demonstrated with the help of a foldable tablet. The table could be bent in half and could also function as a smartphone.

And although the future seems to be exciting and full of promise, it’s worth noting that they’re all still in experimental stages. However, it’s nice to see innovation make a comeback in the world of gadgets and gizmos. Interestingly, Samsung is also rumored to enter the arena and introduce a smartphone with a bendable screen as soon as next year.
