Kindle won't copy iPad, emphasizes e-reading: Amazon

Bangalore: The future version of the Kindle would emphasize on e-reading, rather than copying the iPad, said Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. According to him, Kindle will give tough competition to LCD devices like the iPad, as it is a focused product. E-paper gives the Kindle a number of advantages, which are absent in LCD. Kindle is much easier to read as there is no backlight. Its battery life is also longer due to efficient display refreshes. On possibility of color screen on the Kindle, Bezos told that there is still time to go for a Kindle with adequate color. There are "millions" of Kindles that had been shipped so far, said Bezos. However, he didn't mention how many of them had been sold. As Apple moved one million iPads in a single month, it is likely to catch up the Kindle by the end of 2010.
