Indian Manufacturers Eyes Low-cost Smartphones

Bangalore: Indian mobile manufacturers like Micromax and Karbonn are going to focus more on low-cost smartphone market. This new flourishing market seems to be a promising field for these handset makers to compete with big giants like Nokia and Samsung.

Indian handset makers previously tried their luck with dual-SIM phones; sadly they were not that lucky. Making the smartphones come under a sub-5000 range seems to work in this smart and price sensitive market.

The new software ‘AISHA’ of Micromax having similar functionality like Apple’s Siri and the instant messenger and push-mail service in Karbonn phones functioning same as BlackBerry’s messenger are the proofs that Indian manufactures are trying to give their phone a high-end feel.

The target markets for these phones are the youngsters of the tire-II and tire-III cities. Micromax has already got 1 lakh pre-order for AISHA handsets. This shows that the plan is actually working.

"We've been holding our guns and wanted to fire in the right direction," says Rahul Sharma, executive director and co-founder of Micromax. The company has been manufacturing smart phones for over a year, but it hopes to make it big with Aisha, reports Times of India.

Lava Mobiles is also bidding high in this market in a different way along with Intel. With all the new strategies and efforts these companies will give high-end experience without doing much damage to your pocket. And these local players seem determined garb some pie from the mobile giants.
