Google's Upcoming Mixed Reality Headset Might Astound the Rivals

BENGALURU: Ever since the popularity of Virtual Reality (VR) headsets has been buzzing around, tech geeks have their eyes glued on the gadget’s latest specifications and capabilities. Gadget manufacturers across the globe are also constantly striving hard to come up with the latest piece of innovation. Reportedly, Google, the search engine giant is currently developing a mixed reality headset against Microsoft’s HoloLens and the Oculus Rift. Google Glass is no longer available to the users, but it is available to the enterprises for use in some applications. Featuring its own dedicated built-in screen, the headset will not have to depend on a computer or smartphone to operate.

The company drives beyond the gaming boundaries, and effectively directs more focus on the augmented reality content, which is a far more advanced and innovative kind of experience offered by most dedicated VR headsets today. A report from Engadget suggests that Google has not yet unveiled the release date, but the technology covers a major part of the company’s future plans.

Google’s Expeditions, a virtual reality field trip app developed for teachers and students was launched recently. However, for the time being, the company does not provide a dedicated headset. The firm has also released a pointer to trigger effective interaction with the VR and augmented reality applications.

The search engine giant has shipped more than 5 million cardboard headsets at a cheap rate, granting new consumers an opportunity to enjoy the VR experience. Led by Clay Bavor, Google introduced a virtual reality division in the company earlier this year.

Aiming to make a mark in the VR arena, Huawei also plans to launch the first Android smartphone that supports Google’s Daydream VR platform.
