Google To Replace Play Edition Phones With Android Silver?

BANGALORE: Google’s play edition devices seem to be have disappeared from the stores in the U.S. adding to the suspicion that the company is up to something in the coming months, reports Times Of India.

Apparently, the Google play edition phones like the HTC one, Samsung galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z ultra and the LG G pad have gone out of stock for months now, and Google has removed all the devices off its store too. In addition to this, even the Android police has spotted these devices to be off the store’s shelves, the only likely answer to this would be the Android Silver initiative.

What is Android Silver?

It is an initiative by Google where it will work with multiple device manufacturers on different devices. This is something like the Nexus range of handsets where the company had tied up with Samsung at the beginning and later on with LG, but instead here, there will be more than one manufacturer.

Google wants to help the manufacturers to deliver an ultimate Android experience to its users, and the original handset makers joining the program will be helped by Google’s development and marketing teams with the devices being in priority for the software updates.

However, the rumors have suggested that the Android Silver will be launched only the next year and with the confirmation of a new Nexus launch this year, this move by Google to remove the play edition devices is a bit soon.
