Barnes & Noble Unveils HD Nook Tablets


Bangalore: Barnes & Noble unveiled two lighter and thinner high definition tablets – Nook HD and Nook HD+. These two tablets will compete with Apple’s iPad, Google new Nexus 7 and notably the Amazon’s new Kindle tablets.

The Nook HD tablet features a 7 inch touch screen display at a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels which is a higher resolution for a normal 7 incher screen. It is powered with OMAP 4470 dual-core processors at a clock speed of 1.3GHz.  The tablet weighs just 315 grams and is not available in India yet. In the U.S. market the device has a starting price of $199 for 8 GB model and $229 for the 16 GB model.

The Nook HD+ is a higher end tablet which sports 9 inch touch screen display at a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels which is 256 (ppi) pixels per inch density. The display is gorgeous and better contrast than Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD tablet. The Nook HD+’s screen resolution (256 ppi) is very close to the New iPad’s Retina Display which has 264 ppi.

Nook HD+ is powered with OMAP 4470 dual-core processors at a clock speed of 1.5GHz and weights 515 grams and is available in U.S. for $269 and $299 for 16 GB and 32 GB models respectively.

Both the tablet functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and will start shipping in October and will hit stores in November.
