A Smartphone to See Through Walls, Clothes

Bangalore: The future smartphones can see through walls, clothes and will even come with X-ray vision. A research at the University of Texas has come up with an idea of future smartphone by designing a chip that could give a smartphone the ability to see through walls, clothes and other objects.

Dr. Kenneth O, Professor of Electrical Engineering and his team has invented this new chip using the terahertz band of the electromagnetic spectrum. Like X-rays this wavelength can go through objects, a CMOS technology is used to generate images from the captured the terahertz signals.

“The combination of CMOS and terahertz means you could put this chip and a transmitter on the back of a cell phone, turning it into a device carried in your pocket that can see through objects," said Dr. Kenneth O.

The technology can be used in wide range of industries; medical doctors can examine into patients body with their smartphones and can avoid using huge X-rays and MRI scanner machines.

Don’t be so imaginative and excited about this smartphone which can see through walls and cloths, the researchers have limited its visibility at distance of four inches (10 centimeter) or less in order to prevent misuse of the technology.
