LG Optimus 3D Max

Price: Rs. 23000 - Rs. 29000
The Good: The first highlighted feature in the device is its “3D” functionality. The 3D is fun in the smartphone with lots of 3D content like playing 3D gamers, shooting good quality 3D images and as well as recording HD 3D videos. Apart from the 3D it also has a bright LCD display and NFC (Near Field Communication) tags.

The Bad: Apart from 3D it is just a normal smartphone. At the price point of around Rs.30,000 still it need more powerful specs, powerful battery as it is a 3D smartphone and one more worrisome is it runs on older version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

The Bottom Line: Performance wise, it is almost the same as the other smartphones but the premium feature is it 3D functionality. The glasses-free 3D smartphone grabs lot of attention for its 3D entertainment features with its improved chipset which made the device slimmer and lighter from its predecessor Optimus 3D.

Design: The Optimus 3D Max has improvements over its predecessor in many ways. Though it has a plasticky feel to hold but has become thinner and lighter than the Optimus 3D. It also has finely textured at the back for better grip (not rubberized)

The front has a big 4.3 inch 3D capable display flanked by a black bezel with four touch sensitive keys below the display which light up when touched, but there is no marking to indicate which key is where. At the sides it has a gray frame around the phone. On the left it has volume rockers and microUSB port. As traditional 3D smartphones it also has a 3D key at right side of the phone to switch between 2D and 3D content and also doubles up the camera to shoot 3D image and videos.

At the back it is completely plastic and dual 3D camera takes up most of the space. The LG logo sits right next to the camera strip.

Processor and Operating System: The 3D Max is powered by Dual-Core OMAP4430 processor at a clock speed at 1.2 GHz. The processor is paired with 1 GB of RAM to provide the best performance. It runs on Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, as the Android 2.3 is outdated OS, all smartphone are getting Android 4.0 upgrade, hope the 3D Max will soon get OS update.

Features and Performance
Screen: The 3D Max comes with 4.3 inch WVGA IPS Glass-Free 3D display with 800x400 pixels. The display has great viewing angle, bright and has accurate color reproduction. The display is 3D enabled but the 3D performance itself is erratic. LG advises to view the screen 30 – 40cm away.

Camera: The Optimus 3D has two 5 MP stereoscopic camera at the back which sync up to create 3D images and has an LED flash. It also has VGA front facing camera. The rear camera is capable of capturing 2D, 3D high definition images and record 1080p 2D video or 720p 3D video.

The shutter speed is still very slow but LG has integrated an editing feature to refocus the image but only for 2D mode.

Storage and Connectivity: For storage it has 8GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot to expand memory upto 32 GB. As far as connectivity concerned it comes with NFC capabilities, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, a digital compass, and an accelerometer sensor.

Battery: The Optimus 3D Max is loaded with 1,520mAh Li-Ion battery which offers up to 4 hours of talk time and give standby time of 450 hours on 2G and 3G as well.

Wrap-Up: The LG Optimus 3D Max has come up with lots of improvements from its predecessor Optimus 3D. The phone has a great 3D effect that’s the main highlight and the fun part of the phone. It comes with fast processor and enough RAM memory to perform better, but it runs on outdated version of Android operating system and has poor battery life.
