About Massey University

Massey University has grown from a small agricultural college in Palmerston North to become New Zealand's largest residential university spread over three cities. Massey University now has three campuses in the North Island, and the highest number of extramural students. Massey University offers the only veterinary science programmes in New Zealand. Massey University also offers the only Bachelor of Aviation degree in New Zealand. Massey University qualifications are recognised worldwide and several programmes have international accreditation.

College and Schools:

College of Business: The College of Business is New Zealand's largest tertiary-based business school, with 13,000 students. Our finance programme has been ranked first in New Zealand and 12th in the Asia-Pacific region for the quality of its research publications.

College of Science: Massey offered degree programmes leading to Bachelor and Master of Agricultural Science degrees, and students could also enrol in a variety of short courses in farm management and technology. Courses in horticulture were added after the War. From 84 students in its first year, Massey's roll grew steadily to 500 in 1960. The following two decades saw a period of rapid change as Massey entered a major new phase in its development.


School of Engineering and Advanced Technology: Education and research in technology and engineering have been at the core of Massey University since it was founded in 1963. Its graduates are highly sought after by industry in New Zealand and overseas.

The growing influence of technology on all functions of society has created a large demand for technology and engineering graduates, not only to enter industry and professional practice, but also to bring the strengths of a technology and engineering education to related fields such as law, medicine, management, finance, and government.
