College of Medicine At Florida Atlantic University:These are exciting times for Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. Over a decade ago,  Florida Atlantic Universitybegan to explore various mechanisms to expand access to medical education in six Florida Atlantic Universitycounty service region in Southeast Florida. Beginning in 2004,  Florida Atlantic University partnered with the University of Miami (UM) to offer a two year regional medical program on the FAU Boca Raton campus which was expanded to a four-year regional medical campus in 2005. After six years of a successful partnership with UM, the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees determined that the time was right for FAU to take the necessary steps to create an independent, public medical school at FAU. Several factors motivated FAU in its decision to establish the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. First, by establishing its own medical school, Florida Atlantic University will be able to significantly reduce the cost of medical education for students, who paid UM tuition under the UM-FAU partnership, which is approximately $10,000 higher per year than the average, annual in-state public medical tuition that Florida Atlantic University will charge.
