New Delhi: Senior bureaucrat Rajiv Bansal here on Monday assumed the charge as Air India's Chairman and Managing Director.

Last week, the Appointments Committee of Cabinet had approved Bansal's appointment as CMD in the rank and pay of an Additional Secretary. He succeeds Ashwani Lohani.

"He assumed charges today (Monday) at Air India's headquarters in New Delhi. Prior to this, Bansal was serving as the Additional Secretary, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas," the airline said in a statement.

Bansal, a 1988 batch Nagaland cadre officer, was given the additional charge as Air India's CMD in 2017. He also had a stint with the Ministry of Civil Aviation between 2006 and 2008.
