Press Ganey Designated Tejal Gandhi As Chief Safety and Transformation Officer

An Indian-American renowned quality and safety expert Dr. Tejal Gandhi will join Press Ganey in January 2020.

FREMONT, CA: An Indian American Tejal Gandhi, MD, MPH will join Press Ganey as Chief Safety and Transformation Officer from January 6, 2020. Currently, Dr. Gandhi is serving as Chief Clinical and Safety Officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Here she is leading programs focused on improving patient and workforce safety. Before this, from 2013 until 2017, Dr. Gandhi was Chief Executive Officer and President of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF).

Executive Chairman of Press Ganey says that Tejal is one of the leading voices for patient and caregiver safety and her expertise will help advance the Zero Harm movement for Press Ganey clients across the continuum of care and will also drive their new 2025 Safety Pledge.

An internist by training, previously Dr. Gandhi served as Executive Director of Quality and Safety at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and as Chief Quality and Safety Officer at Partners Healthcare. She pursued her MD and MPH degrees from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and did training at Duke University Medical Center. 

Dr. Gandhi says that the safety of patients and the workforce is foundational to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care. She also mentioned that Press Ganey mainly focuses on supporting enterprise transformation, which will enable more rapid advancement of safety improvements across the care continuum. She is excited for her role at Press Ganey.

At the beginning of this year, the National Academy of Medicine elected Dr. Gandhi as one of its members. She has also received the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, given in recognition of her contributions to understanding the epidemiology of medical errors in the outpatient setting and for developing prevention strategies. Her name was also included in the list of “50 Most Influential Clinical Executives” by Modern Healthcare magazine.
