The Indian-American technology executive Arvind Krishna, a veteran IBM executive of three decades, has served the company in different roles with excellence.
FREMONT, CA: Indian-origin technology executive Arvind Krishna is succeeding Virginia Rometty, as Chief Executive Officer of American IT giant IBM. Virginia “Ginni” Rometty also described Krishna as the right CEO for the next era at IBM and a brilliant technologist to lead the company into the cloud and cognitive era.
IBM Board of Directors has selected Mr. Krishna as company CEO and member of the Board of Directors effective April 6. Krishna will succeed Rometty (62), who will retire after almost 40 years with the company at the end of the year.
Krishna joined IBM at the end of 1990, and he is a veteran IBM executive with nearly three decades. He went abroad in 1990 and the same year he earned his PhD. His profile indicates that he’s spent his entire career at IBM. His roles have spanned from working on the Watson research team to serving as general manager and senior vice president of numerous businesses within the past decade.
Mr. Arvind Krishna said in a statement that he is excited and humbled to be elected as the next Chief Executive Officer of IBM, and appreciate the confidence that Ginni and the Board have placed in him. He also mentioned that IBM has many talented people and technology that can bring together to help their clients solve their toughest problems.
If we talk about his qualification, from 1980 to 1985, he has pursued B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian IIT Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He has also earned a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in Electrical & Computer Engineering.
Earlier he has worked as general manager of IBM Systems and Technology Group’s development and manufacturing organization. Before that, Mr. Krishna was general manager of IBM Information Management, which included database, information integration, and big data software solutions. He has also served IBM Software as vice president of strategy.
According to his profile on the IBM website, Mr. Krishna is the recipient of distinguished alumni awards from IITK and the University of Illinois, is the co-author of 15 patents, has been the editor of IEEE and ACM journals, and has published widely in technical journals.
