Big Four: New York, London, Milan and Paris dominate the fashion world every single year as these fashion capitals hold a very noteworthy influence on global fashion trends. Home to reputed fashion designers, these cities have a number of fashion magazines, shows, exhibitions and award shows happening around the places. Models, Photographers and Brands can build-up experience as several editorial modeling opportunities are easily available at these capitals. The fashion weeks’ schedule begins with New York, followed by London, and then Milan and ends in Paris.[$$$$]

New York Fashion Week

It was in 1993, New York Fashion Week started its venture and it is believed that the economic impact of the event is estimated at $887 million. However, this year’s Fall/Winter week took place on February 6-13 and for the first time a transgender designer named Pierre Davis showed at NYFW. Pierre’s label created a world of fashion and art inclusive of LGBTQ and ethnic identities. The city has over 5,000 fashion showrooms and hosts major fashion trade shows such as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The spring/summer season event will take places from 6th September till 11th September at Spring Studios, 50 Varick Street, New York.[$$$$]

London Fashion Week

Showcasing over 250 designers, London Fashion Week is organized by the British Fashion Council for the London Development Agency. This retail focused event that is attended by over 5,000 press and buyers, has estimated orders of over $100 million. In 2012, London introduced London Collections: Men in addition to the spring/summer and autumn/winter shows and the showcase grew 67 percent and included 77 separate designers in June 2015. LFW was also the first show to broadcast the shows live on the Internet. From 13th September to 17th September, this year’s edition of London Fashion Week will occur at BFC Show Space, The Store X, 180 Strand, London, WC2R1EA. [$$$$]

Milan Fashion Week

Inaugurated in 1958, this humongous cloth trade show is held semi-annually during February/March of each year and the spring/summer event in September/October of each year. Offering superior quality in fashion, the city hosts over 40 shows every season and biggest fashion houses, including Gucci, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni and Valentino. It is organized by National Chamber of Italian Fashion and the events to women’s fashion are the most important during winter/fall season and the summer events are dedicated to men, which include Menswear and Milano Moda Uomo. The Golden Rectangle (a.k.a Quadrilatero d’Oro) offers some of the world’s best luxury, fashion and jewellery boutiques as well as workshops. At Milan, the famous four streets namely via Monte Napoleone, Via Alessandro Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia host several fashion shows. [$$$$]

Paris Fashion Week

Along with the series of designer presentations, Paris Fashion Week also hosts men’s haute couture shows, which are held semiannually during spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. Brands like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Celine host their shows in historical places namely Carrousel du Louvre and the Grand Palais. Generally, about 100 shows in total, span the city, ranging from the top fashion houses to lesser-known names. Known for its cultural diversity, Paris always has designers from all over the world and this brings the ethnic accent to clothes. Being the final fashion event of the year, expectations are high as it is often called ‘the New York of Europe’.
