California: Believe it or not, YouTube is making money from pirated videos uploaded on it. And how!! Well YouTube has many videos and clips uploaded that are not original. When the original makers contacted YouTube on the issue, instead of removing them, YouTube retained those videos and run ads parallel to them. And the revenue from such ads is split by YouTube and the original content makers. In fact, more than one third of the two billion views of YouTube videos with ads each week are pirated versions of their original counterparts. Although these videos are uploaded without the knowledge of the owners but they are left up there by the latter's choice. Analysts say that the two billion views are just 14 percent of the videos viewed each week on the Google-owned site but are enough to turn YouTube into a profitable entity in this year. Chris Maxcy, Director of Content Partnerships, YouTube said, "For a long time, YouTube executives spent their time across conference tables with lawyers worried about copyright violations."
