San Francisco: Programmable logic vendor Xilinx has announced that it has started shipping the Virtex-6LX760 device, which is claimed to the largest field-programmable gate array (FPGA) currently available.
According to Xilinx, the device is available for delivery with immediate design tool support that can enable customers to start projects by using the company's ISE Design Suite 11.4, reports EE Times. The Virtex-6 LX760 device is suited for applications that require intensive computational performance and high logic density. The company says the large-capacity device enables designers to use a single-FPGA to prototype or emulate a greater range of ASIC designs than ever before.
According to Xilinx, compared to its competitors, the device offers a higher I/O count that can simplify the challenge of partitioning a large ASIC netlist across multiple FPGAs. The ISE Design Suite version 11.4 can reduce compile time by 30 percent. The Virtex-6 LX760 device comes with 1,200 I/O pins and 25,920 Kbits of Block RAM embedded memory.
