Most forms of gambling games were initially restricted in 1673, and the Gambling Act of 1965 banned all forms of gambling apart from gaming on horse riding. Though gambling is restricted here, 1995 report claims that around 2000 illegal casinos are operating here. In 1996, the National Gambling Act of South Africa sanctioned a system of licensed casinos and a single national lottery.
