Was it a Slap on Politicians or Democracy?
Though the smashing slap on Pawar's face may look like physical attack on an elderly person, it is more of a psychological gust to the entire breed, who have miscalculated the patience and tolerance of the public and carried on with their mis-governance for years. Physically it's Pawar who was slapped, but it actually meant for the ruling class across the country. Corruption, inefficient and insensitive leaders, civil servants, and others dictating the trade and commerce have disheartened the people and scars in their psyche are not fading away so easily. The never-ending corruption and harsh attitude of the government is making people lose all hopes in those who are ruling the country.
It will not be pleasant enough to justify what the young man in Delhi committed but the incident manifests the erupting anger, hatred and frustration against the politicians. The soaring prices are squeezing the feelings of the people, making them deprived and dejected. Indian majority consists of the middle class and the lower middle class, who are hard hit by the overnight rise in prices. The failing measures to control high inflation are evoking people's anger, but the government still not ready to break its silence. Not paying heed to the burning issues in the country, the leaders are either busy with mechanism to save their chairs or pointing out who went wrong where.
Knowing that corruption persists into the grass root level at every place, the politicians soon have to come up with remedial procedures. But failing to mark any improvement has painted these politicians and bureaucrats dark in public perspective. The corruption is spreading like a cancer across the country and before this cancer reaches its last stage and we lose all hopes for any relief, the useless leaders have to be flushed out of the system and leaders that can keep up to public expectations should be pooled in. And if it's not happening, then leaders better carry masks with you in public, as you never know when a slap, slipper or shoe comes your way!
