The union territory of India serving as the capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana; Chandigarh got its name from an ancient temple "Chandi Mandir". It is the first planned city of India and is known internationally for its architecture and urban planning. It has a well-developed market and banking infrastructure, nearly all the major banks of the country have their presence in the city. It's infrastructure, proximity to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh has provided the city a platform to attract IT talent pool and IT businesses looking for offices. Major Indian firms and MNCs like Quark, Infosys, DELL, IBM, TechMahindra; have setup their base in the city. Chandigarh is ranked ninth in the top 50 cities identified globally as "Emerging Outsourcing and IT services Destinations" by a Global Services Survey conducted by Cyber Media.
