HP launches software to increase wireless revenue
Bangalore: HP announced telecom software that can help service providers to tap Web 2.0 to spark growth in wireless revenue. The 'HP Service Delivery Platform (HP SDP)' now includes a virtual 'sandbox' in which developers can create new web-based applications (apps), widgets and mash-ups on the service provider's wireless network. The new technologies in HP SDP 3.0 make service creation easy, fast and rewarding for independent developers. By attracting non-telecom independent software developers (ISVs) and giving them the tools to build innovative applications, service providers can enrich their wireless networks with the personalized services that subscribers want and are willing to pay for monthly. Web 2.0 services can involve complex revenue sharing among content providers, developers and network operators, so HP SDP 3.0 now includes specific resources to handle micro transactions, manage revenue streams and help service providers to build a successful revenue sharing business model. Kapil Kaul, Country Manager, Communications and Media Solutions, HP Software and Solutions said, "Service providers are much better positioned to tap the new Web 2.0 revenue opportunities with HP SDP 3.0." The new tools build on a standards-based service-oriented architecture (SOA) reduces costs and complexity by replacing multiple service silos with a single, unified resource layer. The common layer gives developers simplified, secure access to the underlying network and its key enabling technologies such as location and presence. Norway's Telenor, with 168 million subscribers among its worldwide operating companies, claims to be a leader in welcoming ISVs. Working with HP, Telenor created the 'Playground', a central environment where its 12 global operating companies can meet with ISVs to discover and evaluate new mobile services. "Telenor is accelerating development of new revenue-generating services by providing ISVs with ready access to network service enablers through standard web service-based interfaces," said Havard Alstad, Group Business Development/Research, Telenor ASA. HP is working with developers and apps store vendors to help in bringing applications to the service providers. "The HP technology allows non-telecom ISVs to build cool apps that tap into the unique capabilities of the wireless network," said Paulo Glorias, Director, Business Development, WIT Software.
