New Delhi: India's recent buzz of mobile number portability (MNP) scheme stand in jeopardy with mobile users more inclined to stick to one telecom service provider with around 90 percent of them not opting for any change. "In the last 12 months 81 percent of the users have not changed their operators and 89 percent of the users are not going to switch between operators in the next 12 months," says a U.S. based independent employee-owned international research and consulting firm, Strategy and Analytics.
The Department of Telecommunication (DOT) have come up with the scheme with an IDC survey revealing that 30 percent of mobile users are ready to change their operator if given a better option. However, contradicting the supposed attitude of the mobile users, Strategy and Analytics has cited that consumers are completely satisfied with the current operators. So, the option of change of operators is ruled out for sometime in the coming years. The scheme, which allows subscribers to retain the same number even though they shift to any other operator, is to be implemented in the four metros - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
