Bangalore: Passive location-tracking tool embedded in one's phone is talk of the town after Vikram Ajjampur and William Devito revealed that Apple products are tracking its users. Finally Apple has broken its silence on the matter and had decided to come out clean. Steve job clarified that location tracking tool was not Apple's idea. It is Android which does the mischievous act. The fact of iOS device recording and storing phone location data first came into to light 2010. Again the issue was brought up recently again when a law suit was filed against the company for violating the privacy laws, computer fraud and abuse Act. The suit was filed by Vikram Ajjampur and William Devito who were users of Apple products. In the suit the duos seek punitive damages and injunctive reliefs. However in a July 2010 Apple's customer privacy policy was updated. It prompted a congressional inquiry in the organization. Apart from the ongoing cold war between Apple and Andriod on location tracking issue, Microsoft has come clean on this matter. Microsoft has confirmed that Windows phones don't store location history. Like most other phones, the platform offers plenty of location-based apps, and those apps require user consent before they begin tracking. Technology has reached its heights. The innovative products are appreciated by all. But the fear of being tracked can be quite scary. Apple has to give more assurance to its customers to secure their personal information.
