Women Entrepreneurs: Motherhood Is No Hindrance To Entrepreneurship
Jennifer Fleiss, co-founder of Rent the Runway was able to secure $15 million in the company’s series B venture funding, just shortly few days before she gave birth. “I don’t agree that men should be considered in the same exact context as women around aspects of raising a family, certain factors like breast-feeding and body recovery require a women to take more time off” she says.
Brad Feld, an early stage investor and the MD of Foundry Group says, “Whether a female founder is pregnant, has children or is planning to have children is not a concern of mine, and frankly none of my business.”
Alexandra Wilkis Wilson is another great example for women entrepreneurs who think, entrepreneurship and motherhood can go hand in hand if balanced and timed properly. She is the founder and chief executive of Stella and Dot, a social sales website that is based in San Francisco. This company has generated over $100 million in a year. She says she “didn’t want to be on some venture capital firm’s timeline about how fast and when I should grow my company when I had two young kids and was still nursing.”
Looking at the future, investors may find themselves to be stupid, if they do not fund companies run by women entrepreneurs, because the current generation women are daring and innovative and there is a huge force seen in developing and sustaining the growth of tech, web and Mobile companies.
