Hemu Ramaiah took the Indian book retail into a new high through her single location bookstore "Landmark". The first shop, over a 5,500 square feet space, was in Numgambakkam High Road. Gradually it forayed into other towns and cities and in 2005 Tata's Trent acquired 76 percent stake in the company. The fund was effectively utilized by Landmark to acquire majority stake in East West and launched full-fledged publishing operation.
