With 65,000 applications, App store exceeds 1.5 Billion downloads
Bangalore: Over a period of one year, 1.5 billion applications were downloaded from the Apple's App Store. The mobile content store has been crowded by the users, apparently making it attractive to the mobile developers. According to Apple, the store now has more than 65,000 applications and more than 10,000 content creators in its iPhone Developer Program. The store has programs ranging from fake beer pouring applications to enterprise grade programs from Oracle and Salesforce. It also has more than 1,000 new hooks in the hardware, the latest firmware attracts innovative applications. Additionally, the 3.0 software also creates new business models for developers because it enables in-application purchasing and application specific hardware accessories. "The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality, with 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up," said Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple. The growing popularity of the App Store has stimulated Apple's mobile rivals to launch their own solutions for having users browse, buy, download, and install applications over the air. Apple's momentum might prove difficult for the competitors, who are trying to use innovative methods to approach the market. Google has already announced that its Android Market will be more open than Apple's store, which has faced some criticism over its vetting process. Nokia will be adding location and social networking into its catalog, but its main focus is on more premium experience. Microsoft will also be launching Windows Marketplace for mobile, but the store is expected to be rolled out by the fourth quarter.
