Bangalore: The first announcement of the Mac App Store came in the 'Back to the Mac' event on October 20 last. Then there was news of the Store releasing on December 6 and subsequently on December 13. All this was done in an effort to launch the Store before Christmas and cash on the holiday season.
According to latest information from a well placed source, none of that is happening due to numerous issues cited by Apple. Now it is most likely to be opened in the previously estimated time of January 2011.
Earlier, Apple had announced to developers to keep their software ready by December 6. Apple had also released a set of additional guidelines last week for the Mac App Store. This included a ban on beta or trial apps submission, updated rules on the use of file system and suggestions on custom apps.
Apple is releasing the Lion operating system in January next year and it is speculated that the Mac App Store will see a simultaneous launch. The applications for the Store were accepted from November 3.
In his announcement in October 20 regarding the Store, Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple said that the company will take a 30 percent cut of all revenues in the new Store.
