When Struggle and Hardships Paid-Off for These Indian Olympic Stars

Joydeep Karmakar:

Joydeep Karmakar is an Indian shooter, born in Kolkatta, West Bengal. He had qualified to represent India at the 2012 London Olympics in the Men’s 50m Rifle Event. Like other Indian Olympic stars, he too had a struggling life before qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. He was unable to compete at the World Championships due to lack of funds. He had to stay away from his family for a long time due to his passion towards the sport. At the 2012 London Olympics, he was placed joint fourth with eight other shooters. However, there was a shoot off between the nine tied shooters, in which he had to be content with fourth position and lose the bronze medal by 1.9 points to a Slovenian compatriot. Though Joydeep may not have won a medal at the London Olympics, he has made the nation proud by his brilliant efforts and has certainly won million hearts.
