"There is all positive about the bill. There is nothing negative. It's a sports development bill. The opposition is nothing but a resistance to change based on personal issues," said former shooter Morad Ali Khan to NDTV.
This bill will bring in a lot of positives to the Indian sports. It's a massive, major, positive first step towards a better sporting system in our country," said the 2004 Olympic silver medalist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore at the talk show.
Talking to us, PT Usha who took the country's name to the global sporting map, shared her disappointment over the state of affairs of sports in India and genuinely hopes that the new revolutionary sports bill would bring in radical changes and says, "India's dismal performance in the field of international sports is quite intriguing and pathetic. We are proud-few who have won laurels for our great country. Words can?t describe our emotions and feelings when we heard our National Anthem being played and saw our Tricolour hoisted at the international venues. We consider it as our national duty to back the Government in this unique hour when the Sports Bill would become an Act to stem the rot."
"We all, every sports lover/enthusiast/and all the sports reporters and editors and every member of the sports family, as true patriotic representatives of Indian sports, have come together for the first time to back this historic, bold step taken by the Sports Ministry and would urge to honorable Prime Minister of India and his members of the cabinet, kindly steer the Bill and get it approved and passed by the Parliament with the same zeal as our union government had shown during the Nuclear Energy Bill thus paving the way for a new vibrant era in Indian sports when Indian athletes would achieve their untapped potential. All ours personal intervention towards successful passage of this landmark legislation shall be remembered by posterity and generations to come," she hopes.
For the first time, we are hearing much talks about accountability and transparency in sports federations in India. It's for the first time that any sports minister has taken this on so serious. This bill will give a chance to every athlete or sports person in the country to be a part of governing or coaching system in his own disciple. The general public, the entire sports fraternity, and the media are all with the bill and they argue that in all fairness, the people associated with the sports administration should withdraw from the cabinet and make positive moves towards the enactment of this game-changer bill.
