Hansie Cronje An adorable cricketer and an enviable captain, Hansie Cronje was first accused of fixing matches with his teammates Herschelle Gibbs, Nicky Boje and Pieter Styrdom in 2000. On 7th April 2007, the Delhi police revealed it has evidence of his involvement in booking and said it has conversation between the South African captain and people from the betting syndicates. Although the players and the country's cricket board denied the allegations initially, he has been sacked as captain upon his revelation that he had not been 'entirely honest.' After an year of investigation into the allegation, the King Commission banned him from playing or coaching cricket for life. The disgraced cricketing legend met with a horrible death in a plane crash in 2002. Despite the disgrace of match fixing, he has been voted the 11th greatest South African in 2004. Herschelle Gibbs Neither could Gibbs escape the obvious ban. In a heart-touching admission, the talented batsman admitted that he had accepted $15,000 from his captain Cronje to score "less than 20" in a one-day international, a promise he couldn't keep and went on to score 74 in that match. He has been banned for six month and later made a strong come back to the international cricket.
